I paid all my ex-husbands and my Federal back taxes with the verbal agreement he would pay me back his half. Can I take him to court for his half?

Don't Do Stuff Verbally. At best you will be able to "take him to court," but unless you had a written agreement or prior written divorce settlement agreement or judgment that provides for payment of your attorney fees, you'll have to pay your own attorney fees.
