Question

Does a person have to change their license plates and drivers license in Washington DC if your job takes you there and you are residing there for 1 plus years?

Answer

Changing Drivers Licenses - DC

Answer:

Your question is interesting because it deals specifically with DC. Frequently, folks work in the city by live somewhere else. This is rather unique to DC, but would technically apply if you lived in one state but worked in another.

That having been said -- the answer is -- it depends! If you live in DC, yes, you will need to change your registration to DC. However, if you just work in the city and live in MD or VA, you will need to change your license to the jurisdiction in which you live.

However, if you are in the military, you can change your license -- or keep the license from your home state, even if you are stationed elsewhere in the country.
