What is a major overhaul?

What is a major overhaul?
The complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, and re-assembly of an aircraft, engine, or other component in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. The actions will return the equipment to a serviceable condition. The periods between overhauls are laid down by the manufacturers. However, equipment may undergo a major overhaul earlier than scheduled, in the case of major unserviceability or after an accident or incident.
