Electric cars date back to 1832-1839. Robert Anderson made the first crude carriage. In 1835 Thomas Davenport built a small electric locomotive. Gaston Planate in 1859 invented the first rechargeable lead acid battery. In 1891 William Morrison built the first successful elec. car in the US. NYC has electric taxis made by the Pope Co. in 1897 and Edison begins work on a car battery. By 1900 there are 4,192 cars on the road with 28% are electric and in 1972 GM produces the Buick Skylark hybrid. In 1974 CitiCar is produced by Vanguard-Sebring, 1997 the Toyota Prius is on the road.
