There are MANY marital arts. There is no right answer to your question. For example, do you count karate as one martial art, when it is actually thousands. Since Martial Arts originally referred to the art of war, and since there are 195 countries in the world, we can safely say that there are probably at least 195 forms of Martial Arts. However, it seems that no matter where you go there are lots of variants. For example, Krav Maga which was started in the 1940's by Imi Lichtenfeld has at least a dozen variants that have spread around the world from Israel.
All this being said there are probably hundreds of main line martial arts with thousands of variants.
