How are magazines different today from the past?
First, today's magazines have much more color and more exciting photos. Magazines can be read in hard copy (print) or they can be read online on your computer or on a smartphone. Another big difference is many magazines today occupy a particular niche: where years ago, there were a lot of general-interest magazines, today magazines tend to focus on a particular theme: politics (proponents of conservative politics and liberal politics each have their own magazines); sports like tennis or golf; hobbies like cooking or hunting. And one other difference is that in the old days, academic subjects like archaeology or philosophy or psychology were mainly read about in journals, but today, there are mass-appeal popular magazines on these subjects, written in a style that the average person can enjoy.
