My husband works for his Uncle's construction company. Several years ago, he (the uncle) bought a truck for my husband and they each paid half with the understanding that the truck would belong to my husband and title transfered to him at the end of payment. The truck has been paid off for some time but the transfer has not been made. The uncle and my husbdand took a break from working together a few months ago and the uncle took the truck and gave it to another employee to drive, free of charge and now refuses to give us any of the value of the vehicle stating that driving it for the few years that we were allowed makes it a wash. What, if any, is our recourse?
Answer
Has the husband paid any part of the purchase price of the truck? Did he give anything (interest in a business; a promissory note; stocks or bonds or CDs) in exchange for the promise of eventually owning the truck?
Did he change his position somehow (turn down offers for the purchase of a truck) in exchange for the promise of owning this truck?
If he didn't, then they don't owe him anything.
