How long does a landlord have to refund my deposit?

Question

How long does a landlord have to refund my deposit?

Answer

21 days from the date you vacated the rental property with proper notice beforehand. If the landlord does not refund your deposit or provides a detailed statement, with receipts, for withholding the security deposit, you can take them to court.

Answer

Review the information in the California Department of Consumer Affairs Tenants' Rights Manual.
