Question

AWOL/ Desertion

If a person is physically unable to perform the job they are assigned to do, but denied a medical discharge or reclassification, and decides to go AWOL or desert, what can be the the consequences of not going back, or what might happen if one was to get caught?

Answer

Re: AWOL/ Desertion

The consequences are prison time, fines, loss of pay and allowances, loss of the ability to hold a federal job, a likely federal felony conviction, and a life spent working for minimum wage.

If you are AWOL at this time, return. If you're already past 30 days, then contact an attorney and work out a surrender to federal authorities. The feds won't forget about you, and they won't ever stop looking for you. They have your fingerprints, and sooner or later, you'll wind up paying the price.
