Question

I have a rental agreement that goes on for a few more months. I got married a couple of weeks ago and my wife moved to my apartment. In order to add her to the lease, the property manager said that we need to once again pay an application fee each and extend the lease for another year from now. My wife and I think that she should have the right to leave in the same apartment where her husband lives without needing to extend the lease for so many months. Should we just drop the idea and not add her to the lease? If we do this, can the landlord evict us? Should we try to add her to the lease insisting that the term is not extended?

Answer

Without actually reviewing your lease, your questions cannot be reliably answered (in my opinion).
