Well the answer is mostly based on opinion, there is no clear answer to this question and all answers will be based mostly on experience and personal preferance.
If you are looking for a car to soup up, then I suggest sticking mainly to coupes with manual transmissions. They are sportier and lighter. The cars most often used are (and this is on the lower income spectrum) hondas like civics, del sols, integras (as acura is made by Honda). Though if you are looking for a car that already has an edge, Nissan 300zx's are very nice, and so is the Toyota supra.
