it is a ceramic material that looks like a long sausage inside of the steel case
it has a honeycomb pattern which allows the exhaust gases to go through it
the ceramic material has a "poisoned" platinum catalyst impregnated in it which converts any carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide which then exits the convertor
